WORLD HAPPINESS REPORT 2021

Talking of happiness is always an important action but, though never easy, it is as challenging and crucial as ever in this very moment. It is indeed by pondering on and studying this extremely human dimension that we can find strength and inspiration, as human beings and as a community, to foster and reclaim this right and to ensure it is extended to one and all.

Eudaimonia: human flourishing and prosperity

As a certified BCorp™ company, we have always been aware that we can do so much to promote happiness for people working with and for us and, in a more general sense, for the world and the environment we live in. In this we are inspired by the vision of our founder Davide Bollati who describes happiness with an ancient and, at the same time, very contemporary word:

For us, happiness is Eudaimonia: a term used by philosophers like Aristotle to indicate a condition of human flourishing and prosperity, a condition that we, as a company, want to fuel and that we embody in three fundamental values: Ethics, Beauty and Sustainability.

The pursuit of this kind ofhappiness, deriving from practising good and virtue, is what inspires every single day who we are and what we do as Comfort Zone and as Davines Group. And we have chosen not to go on this journey alone and to instead contribute to the initiatives launched by important organisations on a global scale. Amongst these, as of 2020 we have decided to be key supporters of the World Happiness Report, a study commissioned every year to international experts by the United Nations and always presented on March 20th, on the international day of happiness.
If, by instinct, happiness is a common theme and word, studying it thoroughly and understanding its social implications, both for human beings and for the institutions, is a complex and vital endeavour. Covid-19 and the pandemic impact and the possible solutions have a lot to do not only with the survival of the human species, but also with the material possibility to ensure regeneration, rebirth and, ultimately, happiness.

The new World Happiness Report 2021

The new, recently published World Happiness Report 2021 focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and on how people all over the world were able to face this pandemic. The main goal of the study was to understand the impact of this phenomenon on people and then to describe and assess how each government tackled it, highlighting specifically those who were able to react better and which initiatives and reasons allowed for a better reaction and more resilience.

Jeffrey Sachs

Columbia University Economist and co-author of World Happiness Report

Amongst the themes discussed extensively this year, a particular place was reserved for Asia and how this region of the world was better than other in containing Covid-19, the impact of the pandemic on work, on personal relationships and on mental health.
